Hmmm...My First Class Blog!!!

Hi there everyone who is reading this.
This is my first official daily blog for English 1020. When Wendy first told us that we were going to have to write five blogs a week, I started to think about what I could write about. There is so much that can be said on just about any subject that comes to mind. I am a person that loves to talk about things relating to me. (For everyone that is reading this I am no where near conceited :).

When we were discussing those various subjects during class Tuesday, I began to wonder if the people that were stating their opinions actually experienced some of the issues that were brought up. For instance, about the difference between city schools and county schools. I , for one have experienced the best of both worlds. The reason why I stated the first sentence is because I feel that if a person hasn't experienced the subject that they really do not understand it. Not to down any one's opinions and beliefs but I just don't think that a person can really comment on a such thing.

I have a great example for what I am trying to say. Take rap music. Some of the hip hop artists that are out today often talk about what goes on in the 'hood', and about how they shot so and so. I , and I repeat, I believe that half of the rappers out here today are lying. Half of them make up those stories or lyrics, just to sell records. Don't get me wrong, I commend them for not staying in that environment and bettering themselves. But my thing is : if you haven't experienced it first hand, please don't speak on it.

However, back to the subject at hand, I think that the difference between city and county schools is that the county schools teach a lot faster and that they let you know that doing your work is your responsibility and no one elses. However, with SOME city schools, a lot of the teachers just give their students a passing grade, just so to get rid of them and not see them in their classes the next year. I can say that when I transferred from Sheffield to Germantown I noticed the difference. At Sheffield I made 3.0's and 3.5's with ease. ( I don't know if it was the work, which was fairly easy to me, or what) However, when I got to Germantown, I had to work HARD for my GPA. Which I am very grateful for. But for anyone and everyone who thinks that county schools are so much better than city schools, just to let ya'll know that they really aren't. Maybe academically in some cases, but not in every aspect. You would never know what goes on behind county school walls, because the news never tell. I will leave yo guys with this line to ponder on...... What makes each school so different and why county schools don't get aired on the news when things happen just as much in them as they do in city schools????

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my blog!!

Well , I thought I was about to leave you guys here reading my blog. However, I just checked my word count and I still do not have enough words. Man!!!! Just looking at the blog above looks like 750 words....well to me anyways. What else do you write about when you have said all you could say in your daily blog that requires 750 words. As you can see I am just trying to fill up the space and create more words which will create into sentences to get the required 750 words. Was that last sentence a run on sentence? I hope my blog isn't to informal.

I can't believe that that little paragraph above only makes my blog add up to 650 words. Will it ever end?!!!?? :) I'm just playing Wendy. Usually I have a lot more to say when it comes to things I feel extremely strong about but I think that I have writer's block or a brain fart or something. I really can't think of anything else to write about that pertains to the subject of which I was writing above. I wonder if I was to check the word count now would I be at 750 words??

Tanjarae! Hey there! You really did hit the plate with a few good points. My topic for this semester is School Assessment. Your subject of discussion will help give me ideas. Sometimes it can be the teacher at fault and in other cases it is the student who does not want to receive the benefits of free education. If the student does not want to be at school, then he or she gives the teacher a hard time. This this causes the teacher to react.

When both the teacher and student do not do their job, in my opinion, this can cause students to quit and not graduate. There must be something done about this. We can't just let it go and pretend that it is nothing new. It is time for the community to step up and get with the program.

great post. I was wrong in class - your blogs only have to be 200 words. I'm SO sorry.

In my view, the most intersting and funniest thing of your blog was the end where you did not know how to fill up the 750 words. That is exactly how I feld when I wrote my first two essays. I am so glad that we just have to write 200 words per blog but I have to mention at this point that I enjoy more and more to blog, even if it is a requirement. I becomes much more than face book and not like hard work for University homework assignments. Plus, my writing becomes much more fluently, I do not look up every thrid word anymore, and I do not worry about the correct spelling and grammar anymore. This exercises make me think in English, that is amazing!!!

Hey there! It is so interesting to read these posts on different people’s views on county schools versus public ones. I am not from Memphis and therefore do not know a lot of the background on the schools in this area. Thank you for giving me some more insight on this subject.
