The Color Mauve???!!

This was written during class...

Well just a little while ago Wendy asked us to make an argument about the color mauve. Hmmmm....how do you make an argument about a color. Is mauve more of a fushia color or a red violet color? I think that mauve is a more red violet color than a fushia color. However, I don't think that mauve is the absolute best color in the world. I think that the color mauve resembles to closely with blood. And personally I don't like blood. In my opinion, I think that orange is the best color. Reasons being, it is a very bright color and when you look at it you can't help but to think of something cheerful and pleasing. I think that the mauve is a very sad looking color. To tell you the truth I really can't make an argument about this color. Its slightly confusing.

Hope you guys enjoyed my mini argument.

Healthcare.....Wow?!! What Can I Say???

In class today Wendy asked everyone to write for fifteen minutes none stop, without picking up our pens. At first I really didn't know what to write about but I ended up accomplishing the goal.

I picked healthcare as my subject because its such a giant issue all over the nation. I don't understand how the United States is suppose to be so financially stable but turns down people who does not have health insurance. I first became interested with this issue after I watched the Denzel Washington and Kimberley Elise movie John Q. In the movie the doctors at the hospital turned down the family all because John's insurance from his job did not cover their son. I've heard of HMO but I really don't know that much about it. I have come to realize that the reasoon why doctors never really tell you your diagnosis until you are half past dead is because they want more money, whether you have it or not. You go to the doctor's office, they check your ears, and listen to your heart with that cold stethoscope and tell you that you have a common cold when you really have lung cancer. I think doctors are lazy and greedy and only wants your money. ( Well some at least.) I think that the issue is with healthcare is really crazy. Isn't that the reason why doctor's offices and hospitals where built, too take care of the citizens of the community. What's the deal? = However, I really do not know everything I could know about this issue. As one student stated in class about how Hillary Clinton viewed healthcare. I really didn't know what she was talking about. I plan to brush up on my research about this whole ordeal. If anything I would love to try and help solve this problem, not only locally but nationally as well. I love the thought of helping people. As the saying goes...."Its better to give than to receive." I absolutely love giving.

Well that's all I really have to say about healthcare today....but don't worry I will be back.

Hmmm...My First Class Blog!!!

Hi there everyone who is reading this.
This is my first official daily blog for English 1020. When Wendy first told us that we were going to have to write five blogs a week, I started to think about what I could write about. There is so much that can be said on just about any subject that comes to mind. I am a person that loves to talk about things relating to me. (For everyone that is reading this I am no where near conceited :).

When we were discussing those various subjects during class Tuesday, I began to wonder if the people that were stating their opinions actually experienced some of the issues that were brought up. For instance, about the difference between city schools and county schools. I , for one have experienced the best of both worlds. The reason why I stated the first sentence is because I feel that if a person hasn't experienced the subject that they really do not understand it. Not to down any one's opinions and beliefs but I just don't think that a person can really comment on a such thing.

I have a great example for what I am trying to say. Take rap music. Some of the hip hop artists that are out today often talk about what goes on in the 'hood', and about how they shot so and so. I , and I repeat, I believe that half of the rappers out here today are lying. Half of them make up those stories or lyrics, just to sell records. Don't get me wrong, I commend them for not staying in that environment and bettering themselves. But my thing is : if you haven't experienced it first hand, please don't speak on it.

However, back to the subject at hand, I think that the difference between city and county schools is that the county schools teach a lot faster and that they let you know that doing your work is your responsibility and no one elses. However, with SOME city schools, a lot of the teachers just give their students a passing grade, just so to get rid of them and not see them in their classes the next year. I can say that when I transferred from Sheffield to Germantown I noticed the difference. At Sheffield I made 3.0's and 3.5's with ease. ( I don't know if it was the work, which was fairly easy to me, or what) However, when I got to Germantown, I had to work HARD for my GPA. Which I am very grateful for. But for anyone and everyone who thinks that county schools are so much better than city schools, just to let ya'll know that they really aren't. Maybe academically in some cases, but not in every aspect. You would never know what goes on behind county school walls, because the news never tell. I will leave yo guys with this line to ponder on...... What makes each school so different and why county schools don't get aired on the news when things happen just as much in them as they do in city schools????

Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my blog!!

Well , I thought I was about to leave you guys here reading my blog. However, I just checked my word count and I still do not have enough words. Man!!!! Just looking at the blog above looks like 750 words....well to me anyways. What else do you write about when you have said all you could say in your daily blog that requires 750 words. As you can see I am just trying to fill up the space and create more words which will create into sentences to get the required 750 words. Was that last sentence a run on sentence? I hope my blog isn't to informal.

I can't believe that that little paragraph above only makes my blog add up to 650 words. Will it ever end?!!!?? :) I'm just playing Wendy. Usually I have a lot more to say when it comes to things I feel extremely strong about but I think that I have writer's block or a brain fart or something. I really can't think of anything else to write about that pertains to the subject of which I was writing above. I wonder if I was to check the word count now would I be at 750 words??

My Manifesto!!!!!!!!!

Tanjarae D.

My Manifesto

When I was first assigned this assignment, I thought to myself how do you describe this word. In Webster's Dictionary, the word 'Manifesto' means: written statement declaring publicly the intentions, motives or views of its issuer. Well being that I am the issuer, I guess I will have to state my numerous views. Often as a child I had gotten reprimanded for being a little too opinionated. I love stating what I believe and why I believe in the things that I do believe in.

I believe in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I believe that without him, everyone including myself would be completely lost. I believe that scientology and the big bang theory is extremely stupid. All through my educational career, I've heard that nothing can be proven without data. However, there lies one simple question. How can one find data to prove why the sky is blue or why there is a rainbow in the sky whenever it rains? I think that half of the scientists today do not know what they are talking about. I believe that classes like anthropology are confusing people. For instance, as I was sitting in class the other day, my teacher began to lecture about the different schools of thought in anthropology. The three schools of anthropology are science, humanism, and religion. As she was lecturing about the three schools I began to think that two out of the three were ridiculous. I really can not understand how and why someone would believe that the world could be created by humans, let alone a giant explosion. Its not that I am trying to make someone believe what I do, its just that none of following makes any sense to me.

Furthermore, I do not believe in the plethora of unwritten rules that have been created of the years. For instance, where is it written that a lady should not wear white after Labor Day? I have heard this saying numerous times throughout my life. However, I have not seen this rule documented anywhere. I know that this statement may seem very irrelevant to life but I do not understand where this unwritten rule originated from. Moreover, another unwritten rule that I really do not understand is why is it alright for a man to have multiple partners and not be considered as an "whore," but when a woman does it she would be considered as the lowest specimen that was ever created? I have always wondered where did this rule come from and why was it created. However, I do not condone a woman to react in such behavior, I just do not understand where this rule was originated from.

Moreover, I believe that the United States of America is extremely corrupt. I believe that George Bush only wanted to be in office just for the fortune and fame. I believe that although he has been in office for eight years he hasn't done anything for citizens of America. I know that a lot of people might disagree with me but I really could care less. If all of the citizens of America hasn't realized by now that our high and mighty President is only running our country into the ground. We've heard about the War on Terror so much that the news media does not talk about anymore. Could someone please tell me why are our big brothers, cousins, uncles, fathers and numerous other family members are overseas fighting?? Could someone actually tell me what we are fighting for?

Although, I stated some of my beliefs throughout this blog, I would also like to state my motives and goals, not only for this class but in life itself. My goals for this class is to recieve an 'A' at the end of the semester and to leave English 1020 knowing how to express myself in a better manner. I would also like to become an avid blogger, not only for this class but in general. Its nice not to get reprimanded for stating your opinions and beliefs. My goals for life are to graduate from the University of Memphis with a degree in Business, to further my dancing education at the Alvin Ailey School of Dance in New York City, and to open my own dance studio and dancewear clothing line. Nevertheless, another goal of mine is to get married and start a family in the future. The following that I have stated has always been dreams and goals of mine.
